O.K., I am really stressed out! I’m trying to plan my twin 13-year old boys’ bar mitzvah, see clients, be a mom, a chauffeur, a chef, a teacher/tutor, a schedule-coordinator, a laundress, an errand-runner, a therapist, and still have time at night to be a wife!
I’m no different from any of you.
And on top of that, my house is a mess and never seems to stay clean (good luck with that when there are 3 boys living here!). Clothes don’t make it into the laundry basket, dishes are in the sink, piles of paper litter my desk, magazines need to be gone through and tossed, books are piled high for the donation drop-off. Aaaaahhhhh! My house is stressing me out!
It’s so important the your house (or part of it) can be a sanctuary where you can go and relax and unwind. Think Anti-Stress Zone.
Find an area in your home that you can declare clutter-free. Better yet, designate it as kid-free, pet-free, work-free, worry-free. Everyday, visit that spot in your home, whether it be for 5 minutes or more. Light a candle or open some essential oil (lavender and vanilla are very relaxing). Maybe some spa-like music. Even a little table-top water feature. Just sit and breathe. Unwind. Relax. Recharge your battery. Then you can return to the world.
Try it today and see how it goes. Keep it short and sweet. Then do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and so on. Sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you can visit your sanctuary more than once a day.
When the stress is so bad and nothing seems to work, I break out my secret weapon. I just turn the word stressed around and do as it says!
