Bananas and chocolate. A match made in heaven. Who doesn’t love a frozen chocolate-covered banana? Sweet and creamy and chocolatey good! But what if we told you that cooking your banana with chocolate will make an equally delicious and mind-blowing dessert?
Now that BBQ season is officially here, it’s time to expand your grilling moves and get the dessert on the barbie. Sure, you can grill up some sliced pineapple or halved peaches to make a delicious and refreshing dessert. But, when you want something a little more decadent (hello, chocolate!) and equally figure-friendly, try our chocolate stuffed bananas. They’re nutritious and delicious and a real crowd-pleaser.
And, it couldn’t be easier. All you need are bananas, chocolate (we’re partial to dark chocolate or Enjoy Life mini chocolate morsels), and some aluminum foil. Yup, that’s it.
If you have kids, it’s a great way to get them involved in the cooking process. You can have them cut open the bananas, fill them with chocolate and wrap them up in squares of foil. Plus, you can prep them in advance and put them on the grill when you finish cooking all of the food for the main meal. By the time the bananas are soft, everyone will be ready for dessert. Be prepared for some oohs and aahs. 🙂
- 4 bananas
- 4 tbs. mini semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
- Optional: chopped nuts, nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt, light whipped topping
- Make a cut down the interior length of the banana, cutting about half-way into the depth of the banana. Use your fingers to widen the cut enough to create space for 1 tbs. of chocolate chips. After you add the chocolate, wrap the banana in aluminum foil and place on the grill. Cover the grill and cook about 5-10 minutes, until the banana is soft.
- Remove from grill and allow to cool on a plate, about 5 minutes. Unwrap the foil to find a soft banana and melted chocolate. You can add some chopped nuts and/or a scoop of nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt or whipped topping.
