Back in 2009, we were interviewed by Oxygen Magazine about “how to avoid pitfalls with your fitness goals and how to stop bashing yourself when your progress stalls”. What a mouthful! We were pleased that the magazine was covering this story because it helps to give our goals a “reality check”.
We love to hear about all the wonderful success stories as well as fab transformations but what happens when YOU are at a standstill? You may have plateaued or you just feel that no matter how hard you try, nothing is working.
In our many years of coaching and training women, we notice that our clients who are confident and positive are the ones that can go the distance! Some of these women were not blessed with the greatest of genetics but they “stay the course”. We advise them to start with realistic goals that can be achieved.
Instead of starting a fitness plan that says “go the the gym every day for 90 minutes”, try going to the gym 5 days a week for 30 minutes. Once you do that, check it off the list.
You have succeeded. Now you can perhaps take on a bit more. We need to feel successful before we achieve success. It is what makes us human. Failing over and over again by giving ourselves unrealistic goals is not helping anyone, so keep your goals achievable.
If you are starting out for the first time with an exercise plan, walk a half mile for a week, and after one week’s time, increase it to a mile and so on. Don’t try to be a marathon runner right out of the gate. Soon, you will feel the beautiful effects of accomplishment with each small goal.
After about 3-4 weeks, you will be “hooked” and you will be ready to take it up a notch. You will begin to love yourself and the goals that you have planned for the future. You will start to notice how positive you feel and you will tend to remove yourself more frequently from negative situations. Adapting an accomplished personality sets you free from bashing yourself and your dreams. You will begin to notice that negativity wont get you anywhere.
Take a look at the models in magazines. You all have your favorites. We can tell you however, that they aren’t just “a pair of legs” or a “set of abs”. They are charismatic confident women-which is why they are famous! There is nothing more beautiful and sexy than a woman who knows who she is, and who is fierce enough to face her challenges head on, one step at a time!
Loving yourself makes you worthy of the goals that you have set for yourself. So look in the mirror, gals and say those famous three words… U ROCK GIRL!!!
