Mighty Mango Salsa
Apr 21, 2022Mango salsa is hands-down our favorite salsa of all! It's sweet, spicy, and bursting with the flavors of summer. Scoop it up with your favorite vegetables or chips or use it on top of some grilled fish or in your tacos.
Salsa is a mainstay ingredient in Mexican cuisine. There's a traditional red salsa, salsa verde (green), pico de gallo (chunky), roasted pepper salsa, and of course, our favorite, mango salsa.
Using fruit in salsa just brings so much harmony to it. We like to balance out the savory, acidic, and spicy notes with a burst of sweet fruit. The most popular fruits to use in salsa are mango, pineapple, and peach.
In the summer, we crave fruit. Hot days have us seeking out foods that are refreshing, like mango. Mango smoothies, mango with chili and lime, and of course, mango salsa.
When shopping for a ripe mango, the color on the outside doesn't usually indicate how ripe it is. Ripe mangos can range in skin color from green to yellow to red. You want to choose one that has a little "give" to it when you push it with your thumb. If you can't find a ripe one, grab what you can and let it sit on the counter for a few days and then get ready to pounce as soon as it's ready.
How we enjoy mango salsa
Mango salsa is super versatile. Naturally, it's a regular part of our Taco Tuesday line-up. On other days of the week, you can find us spooning on top of fish, as a dip for jicama and cucumbers, and on top of eggs (don't knock it until you try it!).
And if you really want to try something that's out of this world, try mixing together this mango salsa with our Holy Guacamole! It's a match made in heaven!
